It was in the year 2012 that it happened for the first time, when history was being created. That was the year when eBooks sales surpassed the sales of hardcovers for the first time, and since then there has been no looking back. The growth rate of eBook sales, according to a report has been exponential and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future.
It has been sometime since industry experts and prominent writers and authors have been speculating about the dark future of print. Now, it seems that all their fear has come true. The viability of the self publishing cannot be disputed, however it is still in its early stages and there is a lot to be desired and achieved yet. The waters are still muddy for many if not most.
The whole phenomenon of self publishing has spurred an entire generation of new authors and writers who have suddenly realized that they can too now publish their works easily, and at no additional costs apparently. This is a blessing for them. There are so many indie authors with hundreds and thousands of books on the kindle platform. It has become rather difficult for the readers to separate the good ones from the rest.
This is where the problem lies. Readers are finding it increasingly difficult to find what they are looking for, and this is why they are turning to review sites. But they have quickly realized that reviews can be bought, sold and manipulated which means more problems.
Not every writer is lucky as the number of eBooks being published in the wild is increasing by leaps and bounds which has increased the competition enormously. Writers are now fighting for readers on social media and other online channels looking to build a fan base.
